I practiced pristine garden hygiene and mulched plants thickly to prevent the fungal spores of early blight from splashing up from the soil on to plant foliage when it rained or I watered. When I lived and gardened in Texas, early blight ( Alternaria solani) was a huge issue. Selecting disease-resistant varieties, following soil test results and adding mulch should make this tomato season more productive.įor more information on tomato varieties, see University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Bulletin 1271, “Georgia Homegrown Tomatoes,” at /publications.Tomato Trials: from blue to grafted what grew this summer. Pine straw, bark, leaves or most any type of mulch can be used. Layers of newspaper can be placed around plants, and mulch can be added on top to further prevent weeds. Placing mulch around tomato plants reduces soil moisture fluctuations and keeps weed pressure down. Foliar applications of calcium can help provide a temporary fix if the problem is not excessive. If the garden soil pH is optimal but the calcium is low, apply gypsum at 1 pound per 100 square feet. Blossom end rot is caused by a calcium deficiency in the fruit and is made worse when soil conditions fluctuate between wet and dry.Īdding dolomitic lime, which raises pH and contains calcium and magnesium, can help prevent the problem. Tomatoes frequently experience problems with a condition called “blossom end rot.” This condition turns the bottom of the tomato fruit black. Gardeners should have their soil tested and follow test recommendations to correct any pH problems. Tomatoes like well-drained, high organic-matter soil with a pH between 6.2 and 6.8. In addition to buying disease-resistant varieties, gardeners should use good cultivation practices to prevent problems. Popular cherry tomato varieties include the ‘Jolly’, ‘Sweet Baby Girl’ and ‘Super Sweet 100’ hybrids. Some gardeners prefer tomato plants that produce small fruit. Popular indeterminate hybrid varieties are ‘Early Girl’ VFF, ‘Better Boy’ VFN, ‘Big Boy’ and ‘Beefmaster’ VFN. Popular determinate hybrid varieties include ‘Bush Celebrity’ VFFNTA, ‘Bush Early Girl’ VFFNT, ‘Celebrity’ VFFNTA and ‘Mountain Spring’ VFF. Indeterminate varieties produce fruit continually throughout the season. Once the tomatoes have been harvested, the plants can be removed. Determinate varieties produce fruit that ripens over a short period of time, producing a large volume of tomatoes early in the season. Tomatoes are classified as determinate or indeterminate types. "V" refers to Verticillium wilt "F" is for Fusarium wilt "FF" is for Fusarium wilt races 1 and 2 "N" is for nematodes "T" is for tobacco mosaic virus "A" is for Alternaria (early blight) and "TSWV" is for tomato spotted wilt virus. The letters by the name tell the gardener the plant pests and diseases to which the variety is resistant. An example would be a popular variety called referred to as the “‘Celebrity’ VFFNTA hybrid.” This means the plants have a built-in resistance to disease. When selecting plants, look for varieties that have a lot of letters next to the name. Two newer, good-tasting, disease-resistant tomato varieties are ‘Red Bounty’ and ‘Bella Rosa’, both of which are resistant to tomato spotted wilt virus. Using a few cultural practices and planting varieties that are resistant to disease can make for a more productive tomato harvest. Once infected, it is too late to stop most diseases from killing or limiting the production of the plant. Tomatoes are susceptible to a lot of diseases. Most tomato plants are planted in late March and April, and every spring some homeowners run into problems with their tomato plants. The desire for fresh, homegrown tomatoes is the main reason many homeowners plant gardens.

The volume is the lowest item in a drive’s hierarchical view. In the sidebar, select the volume you wish to erase. (Make sure the volume you wish to erase is selected, then use the Erase button in the toolbar to begin the erase process.) This can affect the way we might choose to erase a volume. By setting the sidebar to Show All Devices, we can readily see what a volume is associated with. In macOS High Sierra and later, volumes can be carved out of the drive using partitions, or if the drive is formatted with APFS, they can be part of a container. Select View, Show All Devices, or click the View button in the Disk Utility toolbar, and select Show All Devices from the popup menu. Launch Disk Utility, located in the /Applications/Utilities folder. In this case, we just want to free up the space for a new use, and aren’t worried about anyone being able to recover any of our old data. Let’s start off with erasing a volume to casually remove any stored data on the selected volume. We’ll be using the Disk Utility app included with macOS High Sierra and later. If you’re working with macOS Sierra or earlier, you may find the Rocket Yard Guide: How to Use Mac’s Disk Utility to Securely Wipe a Drive a good source of information for erasing your drives. We’ll be looking at drives formatted with APFS as well as those formatted with the traditional HFS+ file system. In this guide, we’re going to look at erasing volumes, partitions, and containers. The second change that directly affects the Mac community, at least in the way free space can be securely erased, is the release of the APFS file system, and how it makes use of shared space between multiple volumes. (Using the Security Options to sanitize a volume may be a thing of the past.) The first change, leading to less reliance on the various secure wipe options, has been the proliferation of SSDs, both as original equipment provided by Apple and by resellers, such as OWC, which bring higher performance storage systems to the Mac. Two recent changes have made the traditional secure wipe, performed by overwriting a volume multiple times with various types of data patterns, largely a thing of the past. Even though the default for Disk Utility is a simple erase, a secure wipe was just a few clicks away. Securely wiping a drive, removing all of its data, and ensuring that no meaningful information can be recovered, has long been a feature of Disk Utility and its erase function. Larger sets have extractors as large as 0.875 inches and are capable of removing large bolts on vehicles and industrial machines. Most sets include sizes ranging from 0.125 inches up to 0.625 inches. Screw heads come in a wide variety of sizes, so it’s important to pay attention to what sizes the screw extractor can accommodate. Attach the end to a 0.375-inch or 0.500-inch ratchet and turn counterclockwise to remove the bolt or screw. To use an extractor tool, place it over the head of the stud or bolt, then tighten the grip around it like a vice. Like extraction pliers, it only works with screws or bolts that are sticking out of the material. Stud and bolt extractor tool: This tool looks similar to the chuck of a power drill. This set of specialty pliers has teeth designed to grip firmly onto the head, allowing the user to remove the screw by attaching the pliers and turning them counterclockwise. Extraction pliers: Extraction pliers are a good option for damaged screws or bolts whose heads are protruding from the surface of the material. Some are double-sided, with a drill bit on one side and an extractor on the other. Many spiral screw extractor kits come with matching drill bits. The extractor has reverse threads that grip the screw as it rotates inside the hole counterclockwise. Spiral screw extractor: A spiral screw extractor removes screws or bolts by fitting them into a hole that’s been drilled into the fastener’s head with a drill bit.The threads typically have a spiral pattern that becomes tighter with force. These threads bite into the bolt head as the user turns the socket counterclockwise using a socket wrench. There are many types and brands of screw extractors on the market, but few have the mettle to do the job properly. These handy devices consist of a drill bit that grinds a hole into the head of a screw and a threaded extractor that bites into this hole, gripping the screw so that the user can remove it with a drill or ratchet. A good screw extractor can make quick work of damaged screws. The good news is that there is a solution to this frustrating issue: a screw extractor. This frustrating issue can leave one digging through their collection of tools in vain, searching for a way to remove the offending fastener. Few things can bring a building project or repair effort to a grinding halt like a stripped screw or bolt. I do not want what has been a beautiful journey with WW to land on negative note. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. I was open to considering anything asked of me. When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread. We never do until the development process is complete, but I look forward to its potential ahead. In fact, I am still on it and that project has been in active development ever since. When I did, Lucasfilm asked me to consider coming back to RS after WW3, which I was honored to do, so I agreed. I originally left Rogue Squadron after a long and productive development process when it became clear it couldn’t happen soon enough and I did not want to delay WW3 any further. Sigh… I’m not one to talk about private career matters, but I will not allow inaccuracies to continue. A cherished friend, inspiration, and sister.” She is an incredible character.”Īlong with the movies’ fans and her filmmaking crew, Jenkins paid tribute to actor Lynda Carter, who played the superhero on TV in the late 1970s and had a cameo in “Wonder Woman 1984,” and to her star, Gal Gadot: “Where do I even begin? Gal is the greatest gift I have received in this whole journey. “I have loved and been so honored to be the person who got to make these last two ‘Wonder Woman’ films. “I do not want what has been a beautiful journey with WW to land on negative note,” Jenkins wrote. Jenkins’ hopeful tone on “Rogue Squadron,” however, is in contrast to the rest of her statement, which reads as a farewell to the “Wonder Woman” franchise. But Disney officially pulled the film from its schedule in September. Lucasfilm and Jenkins announced “Rogue Squadron” in December 2020 at the time, it was meant to be Lucasfilm’s first “Star Wars” feature film following 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” and had been set to premiere in theaters in 2023. We never do until the development process is complete, but I look forward to its potential ahead.” “When I did, Lucasfilm asked me to consider coming back to after, which I was honored to do, so I agreed,” Jenkins wrote. In her statement, Jenkins also said that while she remains in active development on the “ Star Wars” film “Rogue Squadron,” she had initially departed the project after realizing that working on the film would delay a third “Wonder Woman” movie. Roughly an hour after Jenkins poster her statement, Gunn supported her on Twitter, replying, “I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional.” “I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU.In her statement, Jenkins said that story is “simply not true”: “I’m not one to talk about private career matters, but I will not allow inaccuracies to continue.” “A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman,” she wrote on Twitter. The actress checked in with her fans on social media before news of “Wonder Woman 3” being shelved. is counting on Gadot to continue playing Wonder Woman, although it's unclear how the character will be approached under the new DC era. Most importantly, it would allow for more “creative possibilities and the opportunity to build upon what has worked in DC so far and to help rectify what has not,” “The Guardians of the Galaxy” director explained. It came down to “an unavoidable transitional period” that would promise cohesiveness across all types of content, from gaming to television, Gunn said. Gunn and Safran knew they were setting into “a fractious environment both in the stories being told and in the audience itself.” He said that although the first month at DC has been fruitful, the work to build the next 10 years of stories will take time. Gunn took to Twitter to address The Hollywood Reporter story, saying that “some of it is true, some of it is half-true, some of it is not true, & some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not.” Per the report, the duo is expected to unveil what it plans to do with the content in October. James Gunn and Peter Safran were tapped to lead DC Studios, per Variety. Whatever it may be, it appears that DC is cleaning the slate and starting fresh.
